James M. Stafford attended the University of Virginia and was graduate with B.A. in Economics in 1965. He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain. He received numerous awards while in the Air Force, including recognition as an "outstanding officer" in three consecutive years. He received an honorable discharge.
Mr. Stafford attended the Marshall-Wythe School of Law of the College of William & Mary where he graduated with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1972. He is a member of the Virginia State Bar and is admitted to practice before the Virginia Supreme Court, the U.S. District Court and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Eastern District of Virginia and the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals.
